Welcome

This is Mikko's weblog while I am working in Bangladesh. I will start writing in here as soon as I get there, which is around 25th of March 2004. On this page I will place some links and other news about Bangladesh. The actual stories about me and my travels you can find under  the Weblog -link.
Bangladesh

Just to give you a little bit of information on Bangladesh I will place some links here. You can try to google words "Kuakata" or "Barisal".

How, what, where, why?

After graduation in last December, I have been trying to find a job somewhere outside Finland. I thought that this is an ideal time to work in some far away country.

After receiving over 50 rejections from all over the world, I finally got a "Yes". It came all the way from a country called Bangladesh.

After trying to get myself a well paid German job and failing in it, I started questioning my motives. Money has never been the first priority to me, but somehow it was tempting to go to Germany and earn loads of money for few years and then with that money go around the world for another few years.

But, as I told you, I never got there. Instead I am going to Bangladesh and work there as a teacher, system adminstrator, web designer and who knows what else. I am sure the whole work description I will find out when I get there.

As I wrote to few of my friends, I think this kind of job suits me better than my previous ones. This job matches my personal values much better than values in software business. I think its very important to feel, in whatever you do, that you are not doing it against your own beliefs and perspectives.

I am actually pretty proud of myself for doing this. Its not too easy to go, even if the circumstances in my life are ideal for this kind of thing.

I know I am going to have a blast. I know I am going to have a diarrhea. I know I am going to remember this for the rest of my life.

So stay tuned!
